Paul serves as managing partner of the firm’s Scottsdale region supervising offices in Arizona and Washington. His practice is devoted to complex civil litigation involving contract disputes, insurance, bad faith, declaratory relief, real estate, government relations, tax, employment law, health law, securities, business torts, fiduciary breach claims, shareholder disputes, negligence, regulatory, and general commercial matters. He has represented numerous public and private corporations, insurers, financial institutions, governmental entities and agencies, tribal entities, and prominent individuals.

Recent Accomplishments

  • June 2025 Arizona Attorney Top Arizona Defense Civil Verdict for 2024, recognizing a complete defense verdict after jury trial against plaintiffs asserting insurer bad faith and related claims and demands exceeding $80 million at trial. Court awarded Defendants attorneys’ fees and costs in final judgment.
  • Successful defense of action to dismissal with prejudice before New York Supreme Court and Appellate Division wherein Chinese manufacturers claimed in excess of $60 million against former CEO of distributor for intentional misrepresentation, in 2024.
  • Defended Condominium owners and HOA in jury trial to settlement regarding association’s sale of property under Arizona law, in 2025.
  • Successfully prosecuted action to settlement on eve of trial involving claims on behalf of Hospital Special Taxing District Board which resulted in first in Arizona history full refund of all taxes levied to Arizona District taxpayers, in 2024.
  • Defended Arizona County Board of Supervisors in two trials to jury and ultimate settlement against allegations of improper procurement involving broadband internet services contracts allegedly exceeding $80 million in value, in 2024.
  • Defended Special Taxing District to judgment in District’s favor upholding District’s right to levy taxes before the Arizona Tax Court in action prosecuted by Goldwater Institute, in 2023.
  • Successful defense to settlement of insurer in complex aviation case involving midair explosion with multiple claims, defendants, insurers and various subrogation issues, in 2023.
  • Secured Arizona Court of Appeals decision in favor of insurers against Arizona Department of Insurance which determined in-force health insurers had exited state individual health insurance market prohibiting them from transacting business in the state, in 2020.
  • Obtained emergency evidentiary bench ruling in favor of political subdivision of state of Arizona and elected official against elector seeking General Election ballot measure via preliminary injunction, in September 2020.
  • Successful defense of single defendant in class action alleging multiple persons and entities engaged in a widespread captive insurance “conspiracy,” resulting in dismissal of all claims as barred and subject to arbitration, in August of 2019, upheld by U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in 2020, cert denied by U.S. Supreme Court.
  • June 2020 Arizona Attorney Top Arizona Defense Civil Verdict for 2019, recognizing a complete defense verdict after jury trial against plaintiffs asserting bad faith and related claims and demands exceeding $10 million at inception. Court awarded Defendants $1,188,955 in attorneys’ fees and costs in final judgment.
  • Obtained judgment in U.S. District Court (Florida) on behalf of Byzantine Catholic Eparchy against claims of former counsel seeking arbitration of attorneys’ fees issues before Florida Supreme Court, in 2020.
  • Emergency defense of an insurer against bad faith claims before the bench in a $2.6 million dollar matter, resulting in full indemnity and no client liability in 2018.
  • June 2018 Arizona Attorney Top Arizona Defense Civil Verdict for 2017, lauding a three-month trial resulting in successful defense of an International Airport Authority against multiple initial claims in excess $200 million dollars resulting in a complete defense verdict and counterclaim judgment for client in excess of $4.9 million. Judgment upheld by Arizona Court of Appeals, and Petition for Review by Arizona Supreme Court denied, in 2019, with both courts awarding Defendant fees and costs on appeals.
  • Defense of university to dismissal of claims in qui tam action before United States District Court (Arizona) by relators and United States against numerous defendants relative to alleged federal student loan solicitations, in 2015.
  • Defense of bad faith claim on behalf of insurance broker before jury resulting in $2.1 million verdict for Plaintiff, in 2012, successfully reversed by Arizona Court of Appeals, in 2015.
  • Prosecution of accounting malpractice claim before a jury on behalf of Industrial Development Authority seeking in excess of $2 million in damages, resulting in settlement payment for client prior to final verdict, in 2013.
  • Successful defense of corporate officers of public international semiconductor subassembly company in securities class action and various derivative actions seeking in excess of $1 billion in damages alleging misrepresentations concerning backdating of stock option grants and financial results forecasts from 2006 through 2010.
