Kutak Rock Celebrates a Decade in Spokane
News - Press Release | August 7, 2024National law firm Kutak Rock is celebrating 10 years in Spokane, Washington this month. Situated in the heart of Spokane, Kutak Rock stands as one of only a few national law firms in the region, a distinction the firm has proudly upheld for the past decade.
The Spokane office opened in August 2014 with two local attorneys and has since grown to 11 attorneys, one paralegal and four support staff. The office continues to maintain a robust and well-established public finance presence and is now home to a team of seasoned litigation lawyers and experienced real estate, corporate, general municipal, school law, employment, intellectual property, and public finance tax attorneys.
“Our commitment to the Spokane community is deeply personal, as every attorney on our team has strong connections to this area, bringing a wealth of local knowledge and a genuine enthusiasm for serving our neighbors. Our enduring presence and continued growth in Spokane underscore our commitment to excellence and the community’s well-being,” said Adam Baird, managing partner of Kutak Rock’s Spokane office.
Kutak Rock’s commitment to giving back through volunteer time is one of the pillars of the firm’s value system. Spokane attorneys and staff frequently lend their time and talents to organizations across the region, including:
- Second Harvest Inland Northwest
- The GLOW Children Early Learning Center
- Women Helping Women Fund
- Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery
- Washington Women Lawyers
- Project Beauty Share
- Spokane Law Library Board of Trustees
- Spokane Club Board of Trustees
- InvestED
- Communities in Schools of Spokane County
Partner Tanya Lawless is an Executive Committee Member for the Downtown Spokane Business Improvement District’s Ratepayer Advisory Board and Chris Varallo, the office's newest member, is the 2024 Board Chair for the Downtown Spokane Partnership. Partner Sarah Elsden serves as the Chair of the Spokane Law Library. Many of the Spokane attorneys have also worked as adjunct professors at Gonzaga University School of Law and devote significant amounts of their time and effort to various community and non-profit organizations.
“Commemorating a decade in Spokane marks a significant milestone in our firm’s history and both exemplifies and validates our historic growth strategy. Other national law firms have struggled to survive in Spokane because they’ve gotten the formula wrong: they’ve tried to fit the Spokane market into a national model. We’ve prospered because we understand that success, in every market, is about leveraging national resources in the service of specific client needs. We’re proud to be a growing part of the Spokane community, and eager to grow with that community for decades to come,” said John Petr, Chair of Kutak Rock.
