Ryan S. Hinderliter


Ryan is an intellectual property associate in the firm’s Kansas City office. Ryan’s practice focuses on all areas of intellectual property law, with an emphasis on patent and trademark prosecution.  Ryan assists and advises clients of all sizes in identifying intellectual property protection opportunities, protecting their intellectual property rights, addressing concerns, and maintaining their intellectual property portfolios in furtherance of overall business goals. 

Ryan particularly enjoys being a resource as new businesses are starting out and new products are launched by helping to protect clients’ valuable inventions, products, brands, trade secrets, and works of authorship.

  • Development of creative patent prosecution strategies, negotiation with patent examiners, and preparation of written responses to United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) actions with amendments and arguments in pursuit of patent allowance
  • Extensive invention prior art research and analysis and preparation of patentability and freedom to operate legal opinions
  • Preparation and filing of federal and international trademark applications
  • Trademark availability due diligence searches and legal opinions
  • Advising clients of all sizes on intellectual property concerns and opportunities to protect, assert, and defend intellectual property rights
  • Advocating vigorously for clients’ intellectual property positions, preparation of demand letters to enforce clients’ intellectual property rights, and negotiating resolution of intellectual property disputes
  • Preparation of intellectual property agreements, including confidentiality agreements, non-disclosure agreements, joint development agreements, memorandums of understanding, intellectual property licenses, intellectual property assignments, and settlement agreements
  • Preparation and filing of federal copyright applications
  • Representation of clients in intellectual property litigation, with experience in patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright, and trade secret cases
  • Preparation of court pleadings, motions, memorandums, discovery requests, and discovery responses
  • Representation of clients before the USPTO Trademark Trial and Appeals Board (TTAB) in trademark cancellation and opposition proceedings
  • Representation of clients in Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) proceedings
