News | August 29, 2025Kutak Rock served as Bond Counsel and Disclosure Counsel in connection with the issuance and sale of the $100,565,000 Board of Trustees of Metropolitan State University of Denver, Institutional Enterprise Revenue Bonds (Student Housing and Event Center Project), Series 2025A and the $9,565,000 Board of Trustees of Metropolitan State University of Denver, Institutional Enterprise Revenue Bonds (Student Housing and Event Center Project), Taxable Series 2025B. Proceeds of the Series 2025 Bonds are being used to finance the construction of a student housing facility and renovation of the event center on the Auraria Higher Education Center (“AHEC”) campus in Denver, Colorado.
Within the student housing facility there will be a first-floor dining space and other commercial and retail space, the Classroom to Career Hub (the “C2 Hub”) located on the second floor (which will not be funded with Series 2025 Bond proceeds), and 155 units with 586 beds of student housing located on floors 3 through 12. The C2 Hub will provide career services to University students in a consolidated location supporting the University’s mission and core values of Community, Access, Diversity, Respect and Excellence.
The total cost of the student housing facility is expected to be approximately $103.6 million and is being funded through a combination of Series 2025 Bond proceeds, approximately $6.0 million from the State of Colorado for the C2 Hub, and approximately $9.6 million from fundraising through the University’s Foundation for the C2 Hub.
Approximately $13,000,000 of proceeds of the Series 2025 Bonds are expected to be used to renovate the Event Center at the AHEC Campus, which has contained a vacant pool space for years. This project seeks to revitalize that space and repurpose it to meet significant campus academic needs by creating a multipurpose area that will serve as a training and education space to support the University’s Exercise and Sport Sciences students, as well as a large event space to host key events for University students, including guest lectures, incoming student orientations and other large-scale academic convenings.
Public Finance partners Fred Marienthal, Jennifer Barrett and Shawn Willette worked on this financing.
