Kutak Rock recently represented the National Trust for Local News, a national nonprofit dedicated to preserving and providing long-term sustainability for local news sources, in its asset purchase of The Portland Press Herald and four other daily and 17 weekly newspapers from Masthead Maine. The newspapers, in southern and western Maine, will continue to operate independently.

In 2021 the National Trust for Local News was established in Denver, Colorado with a goal of preserving local news outlets by helping them find ways to become sustainable. The organization also owns 24 community newspapers in Colorado which they acquired in 2021 with Kutak Rock’s assistance.
