Kutak Rock has been named one of the best law firms to work for in U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Companies to Work For: Law Firms list. The firm was rated among other leading law firms on factors that analyze how individual firms meet the needs and expectations of their employees compared to their competitors.
“We are honored to receive this recognition. Kutak Rock was founded 60 years ago with a then-groundbreaking commitment to fostering a professional environment that values excellence, collaboration, and respect,” said John Petr, Chair of Kutak Rock. “We have always believed that a workplace community supportive of the holistic well-being of its members is a cornerstone of our success and of our ability to attract and retain extraordinary team members. This award is a gratifying and tangible acknowledgment of our collective success in building such a community.”
This inaugural national ranking analyzes how law firms meet the needs and expectations of their employees compared to their competitors, considering several factors including quality of pay and benefits, work-life balance, job stability, physical and psychological comfort, belongingness and opportunities for professional development within each organization.
The co-chairs of Kutak Rock’s Well-Being Initiative Group (W-BIG) are pleased that the firm’s strategic and data-driven approach to employee support and satisfaction is resonating with colleagues. “This recognition is a testament to the firm’s commitment to soliciting and listening to employee feedback, which then serves as the basis of our three-year Well-Being Initiative Strategic Plan,” said Stuart Hindmarsh, who serves as a co-chair of W-BIG. Mariza McKee, also a W-BIG co-chair, added “Our firm prioritizes holistic well-being with strategies aimed at cultivating a culture of workplace wellness. We’re encouraged by our progress and impact. Looking ahead, we’re committed to implementing tactics for an ever-evolving, supportive, and respectful environment where our colleagues can build sustainable, rewarding careers.”

“Job seekers evaluating law firms where they can build their careers typically prioritize various needs such as pay, work-life balance and professional development,” said U.S. News Managing Editor of Money Susannah Snider. “Among other factors, U.S. News looks at law firms that contribute to a positive work environment and day-to-day employee experience and offer opportunities for upward mobility.”
To calculate the U.S. News Best Companies to Work For: Law Firms list, U.S. News partnered with Leopard Solutions and Revelio Labs, which gathered relevant data, including employee sentiment and legal market research, to calculate the six metrics used in the list. Only companies included in Leopard Solutions’ database were considered for the list. Additionally, each company had to have a minimum of 10 U.S.-based Glassdoor reviews written between 2020 and 2022. For further details on how the metric scores were calculated, see the methodology.
