Kutak Rock Attorneys Aid Startups at Arkansas Pro Bono Clinic
News | April 14, 2023Kutak Rock attorneys David McDaniel, a partner in the Little Rock office, and Bill Swartzwelder from the Rogers office, assisted startups at a pro bono clinic at the University of Arkansas last month. Hosted by the U of A School of Law and the Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (OEI), more than 20 startups had the opportunity to consult with about 45 volunteer attorneys and law students on issues ranging from organizational structure to documentation.
In addition to helping the startups, more experienced attorneys demonstrated effective client interactions as a learning opportunity for the U of A students. Law school and OEI officials hope the one-day clinic serves as a springboard for a permanent program jointly offered by both entities.
“Bill and I are both keenly aware of the importance of small businesses to our local communities and how we, as attorneys, can contribute to an ecosystem that encourages and supports entrepreneurial growth,” said Mr. McDaniel. “This clinic provided us an opportunity to assist early-stage entrepreneurs while also offering law students the opportunity to participate in a client interview process and assist in the preparation of substantive legal documents, which I think was beneficial for all the parties involved.”
Mr. McDaniel regularly represents publicly traded and privately held companies across multiple industries in various capital markets, transactional and compliance matters, including public and private offerings of equity and debt securities, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures.
Mr. Swartzwelder represents companies across a wide array of corporate and securities matters, including mergers & acquisitions, public and private securities offerings, the formation of private equity funds and other related transactional matters.
