Dwyer Arce to Serve as President of MICAH House Board of Directors

News | January 6, 2022

Kutak Rock litigation partner Dwyer Arce began a two‑year term as President of the Board of Directors of MICAH House on January 1, 2022.

MICAH House is a family emergency shelter in Council Bluffs, Iowa, providing temporary housing to families and single women facing the crisis of homelessness in the Omaha metro and western Iowa. Families and single women who enter MICAH House are provided an array of services including nutritious meals, counseling resources, an on-site health clinic, and a trauma‑informed play program.

Since May 2017 Dwyer has volunteered hundreds of hours at the shelter, serving meals, sorting donations, and engaging in structured playtime with children experiencing the stress of homelessness. Dwyer’s board service and volunteer work at MICAH House was profiled in 2018 by a Thanksgiving Day article in The Daily Nonpareil titled “Giving thanks by giving back: Micah House board member, volunteer practices law, altruism.” According to the profile, Dwyer learned of the program through a newspaper article and initially intended to volunteer once a week, but soon found himself volunteering multiple times a week instead. Dwyer was later invited to join the MICAH House Board of Directors in September 2017.

Outside of his involvement with MICAH House, Dwyer also dedicates hundreds of hours per year to community service through various roles with the courts and bar associations of Nebraska and the U.S. Virgin Islands. He was recently elected to serve as President of the Virgin Islands Bar Association beginning in December 2022; he was appointed to the Nebraska Supreme Court Committee on Practice & Procedure in 2020; and has served as chair of the Nebraska State Bar Association Practice & Procedure Committee since 2019.

Dwyer’s practice focuses on appellate proceedings in state and federal courts nationwide, in addition to commercial trial litigation primarily in state and federal courts in Nebraska, Iowa, and the Virgin Islands. His appellate practice was recognized in the 2021 and 2022 editions of The Best Lawyers in America©.
