Jacob Gray Helps Establish Tax-Exempt Status for Children’s Athletics Nonprofit
News - Inclusive Engagement | May 5, 2026Kutak Rock associate Jacob S. Gray recently assisted Children Thriving Foundation, a new charity in Minnesota that helps underserved children participate in youth athletics, organize and obtain tax-exempt status.
Jacob, who focuses his practice on employee benefits and corporate law in the firm’s Minneapolis office, says he was drawn to this pro bono opportunity because he benefitted greatly from participation in youth sports.
“As someone who grew up participating in youth sports, I understand the benefit it provides to the kids as well as the cost burden to the parents, which can be a barrier for many families,” he said. “Children Thriving Foundation’s mission to remove that barrier so more kids have the ability to participate was a mission I was eager to support.” The foundation has already been able to provide funding for local athlete scholarships and funding for underfunded programs like youth volleyball. Children Thriving Foundation facilitates participation in youth athletics in and around Blaine, Minnesota for underserved populations who may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate. Founders Mike and Nini Sokol believe participation in youth athletics is an important element in the development of healthy and happy children and that all children should have the opportunity to participate.
Children Thriving Foundation will hold its first Annual Gala this September in Blaine, Minnesota. More information about the charity, what they already have accomplished, testimonials, and how to support their mission can be found on their Facebook page.
