News | July 6, 2026

Kutak Rock is pleased to announce that Lucy Newberry has rejoined the firm as a transition partner in its Scottsdale office.

Lucy returns to Kutak Rock after serving as managing director and deputy general counsel at National Equity Fund, Inc. where she advised one of the nation’s leading affordable housing syndicators on complex legal, tax and transactional matters since 2021.

Previously, Lucy spent 15 years as a partner in Kutak Rock’s Tax practice group where she advised public, private and nonprofit clients on a broad range of sophisticated legal and regulatory matters. Her practice included federal, state and local tax issues; corporate governance and securities matters; regulation of multistate retail operations; unclaimed property and escheat compliance; and gift card and other closed-and-open-loop platform audit and compliance matters. She also regularly advised clients on tax credit equity investment transactions, exempt, nonprofit and charitable entity formation, and director, operational and general compliance issues. In addition, she served as the chair of the firm’s audit response committee.

Lucy’s practice focuses on tax and corporate law, with particular emphasis on complex transactional structuring, regulatory compliance and affordable housing and community development matters. Her experience in both private practice and in-house leadership positions allows her to provide practical, business-focused counsel grounded in a deep understanding of client needs and operational realities.

Lucy earned her BBA from the University of Kentucky, her J.D. from Creighton University School of Law, and her MBA from the University of Louisville.
