Michelle Pernicek, a partner in the firm's public finance department, is featured this month in the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL) member spotlight for January 2025. A NABL member since 2015, Michelle’s dedication to affordable housing finance and her contributions to the bond law community have earned her this well-deserved recognition.
In her member spotlight interview Michelle shared insights into her journey to bond law which she describes as “a combination of luck and the right circumstances”. Since joining Kutak Rock in 2015 Michelle has focused on affordable housing financing nationwide finding the practice both challenging and rewarding. She also credits NABL for providing invaluable learning opportunities and connections with the bond law industry which have significantly shaped her career.
When asked about her goals for 2025 Michelle highlighted her commitment to mentoring new attorneys and advancing her work in the California housing market particularly in aiding recovery and rebuilding efforts after the Southern California wildfires. Her passion for continuous learning and her drive to make a positive impact show her approach to both her practice and her contributions to the broader community. Outside of work Michelle is an avid reader and recently recommended The Small and Mighty by Sharon McMahon a narrative nonfiction book offering a blend of hope and knowledge.

Michelle practices in the area of public finance and affordable housing financing. She routinely serves as bond counsel and bond purchaser’s counsel in multifamily housing financings across the country. She has also represented hedge funds investing in derivatives and municipal securities. She has substantial experience as special counsel to lenders for the acquisition and documentation of interest rate caps in multifamily housing transactions. Michelle serves on the firm’s Pro Bono and Community Service Committee and its Business Development Committee.
