Kutak Rock Earns “Tipping the Scales” Award for Gender Parity in 2020 Partner Class

News - Inclusiveness and Diversity | November 10, 2020

Kutak Rock has been recognized by The Diversity and Flexibility Alliance with a “Tipping the Scales” Award for having 50% or more women in its 2020 new partner class. In fact, 55% of the 30 new partners were women, as announced in January. Kutak Rock was among 46 law firms to receive the award at the Nov. 6 Diversity and Flexibility Alliance’s Annual Meeting, where firm Chair Jay Selanders was a speaker.

Titled “Moments of Impact: Transforming Organizational Culture,” the online event brought together influencers and innovators from the legal and professional services industries to learn how to create moments of impact within organizations. Mr. Selanders was part of a panel discussing the impact that diversity and flexible working will have on shaping the future of the workplace.

“With a national average of only 40.9% new partners in 2020 being women, there’s clearly more work to be done to achieve parity in the legal industry,” said Mr. Selanders. “We’re proud of our firm’s legacy of hiring, promoting, and supporting women attorneys, and we congratulate the other ‘scale tippers’ for their efforts toward this worthy goal.”

“We applaud our member firms, many of whom took intentional steps towards increasing gender diversity, leading to quantifiable results as our member firms promoted a substantially higher share of female new partners (43%), compared to the overall share of women in this year’s new partner classes (40.9%),” said Manar Morales, President & CEO of the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance. Kutak Rock was described as a “visionary leader” among large law firms.
