The Missouri Bar has selected Kutak Rock civil litigation attorney and Speaker of the House Elijah Haahr as one of its 2020 recipients of The Missouri Bar Legislative Awards. The state bar presents Legislative Awards to recognize Missouri lawmakers who have made significant contributions to legislation affecting the administration of justice and the integrity of the judiciary.

Mr. Haahr, who served as the 2019-20 speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives and was previously speaker pro tempore, will be departing his seat at the end of the year as a result of term limits. When elected as the chamber’s leader at age 36, he was the youngest speaker in the country. Haahr represents south central Springfield and was first elected in 2012. He has served four terms, totaling eight years, in the Missouri House.

Mr. Haahr has successfully represented clients in state circuit court, administrative law hearings, and federal district court, and has appeared and successfully argued before the Missouri Southern District Court of Appeals. He has tried jury and bench trials in state and federal courts; deposed hundreds of parties, witnesses and experts; participated in dozens of mediations; and argued numerous motions in courts in Missouri and Oklahoma. Additionally, he has defended numerous medical providers and doctors in medical malpractice litigation across southwest Missouri.
