Matthew McElhiney Quoted in American Recycler News

News | October 1, 2019

Matthew McElhiney, Kutak Rock partner in the Denver office, was recently quoted in an October 2019 article of American Recycler News titled, “Consolidations Alter Waste Scene.”

The article reports what experts are seeing in terms of M&A activity within the recycling and waste management marketplace.

Mr. McElhiney says, “M&A activity in the waste industry remains strong. Consolidation is occurring with the big players acquiring little players, and regional players acquiring or adding to their positions in or near their existing geographies, to either solidify their primary positions in those regions, or to make themselves attractive acquisition targets on their own.”

He also explains that “waste production in the U.S. per capita, is the highest in the world according the EPA and others. At the same time, regulation has become more restrictive, and fewer new waste disposal facilities are being permitted, although we do see alternate avenues for waste disposal, such as waste to energy conversion facilities, increasing – if they can make it through a tough regulatory environment and obtain permitting.”

Mr. McElhiney has a broad range of experience handling corporate, merger & acquisition, business, contract and transactional issues.

With more than 45 attorneys, Kutak Rock’s national M&A group has built a solid reputation as a leader in Middle Market M&A and recently completed $2.8 billion (dollar value) in deals (2017-2018). Kutak Rock’s experience includes representing buyers, sellers and private equity groups in domestic and cross-border transactions.
