Jay Selanders and Amy Van Horne accepted the Law Firm Partner Equal Justice Award on behalf of the firm at the Nebraska Friends of Legal Aid Luncheon on September 12. The Equal Justice Award recognizes the firm’s longstanding service to Legal Aid, commencing with Bob Kutak’s commitment to equal access to justice and Harold Rock’s career-long partnership with Legal Aid of Nebraska. Those efforts continued under the leadership of former Chair David Jacobson and now under current Chair Jay Selanders. Kutak Rock has been a long-time supporter of Legal Aid of Nebraska, both as a law firm and through individual partner donations.
“It is a privilege to be part of this organization” said Amy Van Horne, a firm partner, head of the Legal Aid of Nebraska Planning and Priorities Committee, and Executive Board Member of Legal Aid of Nebraska. “The amazing staff at Legal Aid of Nebraska is dedicated to ensuring that Nebraskans who cannot afford civil legal services get equal access to our Courts. Both David and Harold often reminded our lawyers how important Legal Aid of Nebraska was to Bob Kutak and to the firm. It is very humbling to be part of continuing on with their legacies.”
The luncheon featured Georgetown University Law Center professor Peter Edelman, who teaches constitutional law and poverty law and is faculty director of the Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality. Kutak Rock was honored to have Marilyn Rock and Nancy Jacobson present as the firm received the award.
Legal Aid of Nebraska also created Equal Justice Awards for Community Partner and Attorney Partner. According to Legal Aid of Nebraska, it has provided dignity, hope, self-sufficiency and justice through quality civil legal services for more than 50 years through information, referrals, advice, workshops, self-help services and limited assistance.
