Michael A. Condyles

Michael serves as managing partner of the firm's Richmond office. He represents creditors, debtors, creditors’ committees and trustees in all aspects of bankruptcy cases and advises clients in out-of-court workouts and debt recovery litigation.

Michael possesses a broad range of experience in analyzing, structuring and negotiating a variety of distressed commercial transactions in connection with in and out-of-court restructurings. Recent engagements include the representation of Nordic Aviation Capital Designated Activity Company,   Pier 1 Imports, Inc., Le Tote, Inc., Intelstat, S.A., Gymboree Group, Inc. (second filing), Toys “R” Us, Inc., Gymboree Corporation, Penn Virginia Corporation, and Patriot Coal Corporation in their Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Richmond Division.

  • Represented Gymboree Corporation and its affiliates, one of the former largest children’s apparel specialty retailers in North America, in their Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings
  • Represented Penn Virginia Corporation and affiliates, one of the nation’s leading oil and gas companies engaged in the acquisition, development and production of oil and natural gas reserves, in their Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings
  • Represented Patriot Coal Corporation and affiliates, which was the second largest producer and miner of coal east of the Mississippi, in their Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings
  • Represented Movie Gallery, Inc. and affiliates, formerly the second largest North American home entertainment specialty retailer, in their Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings
