In his article, “Straining the Rainbow Ceiling” which appears in the May/June 2026 edition of The Nebraska Lawyer, Omaha partner Edward Fox II writes about the many reasons why the struggle for LGBTQIA+ representation continues in the legal profession, and how we can create an inclusive legal community.

“I appreciate the opportunity The Nebraska Lawyer gave me to highlight issues related to representation of LGBTQ+ attorneys in Nebraska,” said Ed. “Representation and inclusion will be particularly important as new generations join the legal community.”

In his article he states, “As recently as 2004, fewer than 1.1% of surveyed legal industry members identified as LGBTQIA+. That percentage has increased by a multiple of five in the subsequent years. Adding in the explosive growth in the percentage of young attorneys and law students who identify, it is clear that the legal industry will have to account for these changes and will have to take steps to actively become more inclusive to fulfill the law’s promise and the ethical duties incumbent on all members of the legal profession”
