Monika Calamita, a public finance partner in Kutak Rock’s Scottsdale office, has been named a 2021 “Rising Star” by The Bond Buyer (subscription required). The program showcases the brightest young minds in the municipal finance community.

Ms. Calamita joined Kutak Rock in 2013 after earning her J.D. from Arizona State University College of Law. Since then, she’s focused her practice on charter school financings in numerous states, participating in more than 135 transactions with an aggregate principal amount of more than $2.8 billion.

“She is part of the new breed of public finance attorney that our industry desperately needs, and I expect her to continue to make her mark over the remainder of her career,” said Dane Fernandes, chair of Kutak Rock’s public finance department in Scottsdale.

Ms. Calamita has served as bond counsel, disclosure counsel, issuer’s counsel, bank counsel, and underwriter’s counsel in new money and refunding financings; multi-state and multi-campus financings; direct loan financing; publicly and privately offered financings; and lease transaction financings. She has also worked on various industrial revenue bond financings including housing, prison and healthcare.

“Having one’s work recognized by colleagues is an honor, and I’m grateful to work with such an exemplary team. Charter school finance is a niche area of municipal finance that I find rewarding and satisfying. I look forward to many more years of assisting charter schools in their mission to provide educational options for our children.”

The Bond Buyer is the only independent resource serving the entire municipal finance community, reaching more than 75,000 professionals.
