News | October 22, 2019

John Schembari, Kutak Rock partner in the Omaha office, was recently quoted in the October 18 Midlands Business Journal article, “Paid leave programs are highly sought after by incoming workforce.”

The article reports that employers are adding and modifying paid leave programs at a historic pace. Mr. Schembari provides various reasons for these changes, including the proliferation of state and local laws that mandate a certain level of paid leave. He also says that “paternity leave is relatively new…and paid leave for adoption, the care of seriously ill family members, bereavement, and domestic abuse are becoming more common.” Additionally, he remarks, “Increasing paid leave programs can create strong feelings of loyalty among current employees,” and employers are recognizing this more.

Mr. Schembari concentrates his practice primarily in employee benefits law and chair’s the Firm’s national Employee Benefits group. He works with private, public and governmental employees on their employee benefit plans and compensation programs.
