Kutak Rock to Participate in Mansfield Rule 3.0

News - Inclusiveness and Diversity | September 04, 2019

Kutak Rock is excited to announce that we will participate in Diversity Lab’s 3.0 iteration of the Mansfield Rule, which runs from July 2019 to July 2020. The Mansfield Rule, named after Arabella Mansfield—the first woman admitted to practice law in the United States—asks law firms to examine internal processes for developing diverse candidate shortlists.

As a Mansfield Rule participant, Kutak Rock tracks, over a one-year period, whether the firm has affirmatively considered 30% diverse candidates (defined by the Mansfield Rule as women and attorneys identifying as races and/or ethnicities other than white/Caucasian, individuals with disabilities, and LGBTQ) for partner promotion and certain types of attorney hires, pitches, and leadership and governance roles.

“Kutak Rock has a long commitment to inclusiveness and diversity and shares the Mansfield Rule goals to ensure that internal processes for management appointments, hiring, and promotion to partnership are as transparent and inclusive as possible,” said Kim McKelvey, director of inclusiveness and diversity at the firm.

New for this version, Mansfield 3.0 will include lawyers with disabilities as well as women, lawyers of color, and LGBTQ+ lawyers as part of the diverse candidate pool. For more information, visit Diversity Lab’s website.
