Penfield Tate Featured in Colorado Politics

News | September 18, 2018

Kutak Rock partner Penfield Tate was recently featured in the Colorado Politics article “Q&A with Penfield Tate: A tale of two Tates and their impact on our state.” The article covers a brief history of Mr. Tate’s father, Penfield Wallace Tate II, Boulder’s first and only African-American mayor to serve who was a “guiding force” for him who “intrinsically understood discrimination against one is discrimination against all.”

Tate said, “My father had a basic common sense and appreciation for human decency. My style is different from my father’s, but the core values he not only raised me with but upon which he led his life and career are a key reason I have dedicated my life to public service.”

The question and answer article covers Mr. Tate’s time spent in elected office, his thoughts on the Colorado news media, ways to improve the climate of race relations in Denver and throughout the state, as well as the importance of being a father. When asked about a potential run for office in Denver, Mr. Tate shies away from answering, but says “any administration should aspire to meet the needs of the people and our community as our first priority.”
