Kutak Rock’s former Chair, David Jacobson, has died following a long illness. A member of the firm since 1977, David was a successful litigator who grew into leadership positions, first as head of the Omaha office’s litigation department and eventually as Chair of the firm.

David’s tenure as firm Chair between 1996 and 2017 was marked by tremendous growth. Under his leadership, the firm opened many offices, added hundreds of lawyers and staff, and offered new practice areas to clients.

He began his career as a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society and ended it with service to numerous civic and charitable organizations while serving as the firm’s Chair.

His outstanding business acumen was balanced by passionate interests in basketball, politics and, among other pop culture diversions, the Lord of the Rings mythology. In his personal interactions he often showed a disarming warmth and a quick wit.

David often spoke of his belief in the core values with which Kutak Rock was founded: consummate professionalism, dedication to the firm as an institution, and respect for every firm member regardless of station. As Chair, he did his utmost to communicate those values to his colleagues and to advocate for their preservation.

Although David leaves us an extraordinary legacy, our sense of loss is great.
