Alexis L. Pappas

Alexis concentrates her practice in employee benefits law.

Alexis chiefly aids clients in the creation, ongoing administration and regulatory compliance of health and welfare plans. In this role, she drafts plan documents and SPDs for health, cafeteria, disability, tuition reimbursement and wrap plans; assists employers in their compliance with state and local laws, such as paid leave ordinances and commuter benefit programs; conducts nondiscrimination testing; gives clarity to ERISA preemption analyses; examines PBM rebating; and conducts presentations on the Affordable Care Act.

Her practice also embraces retirement plans. In this role, she advises clients on fiduciary duty and prohibited transaction matters under Title I of ERISA; drafts, restates and amends plans, namely 401(k), 403(b), defined benefit plans and ESOPs; oversees the correction of complex plan errors via Internal Revenue Service and Department of Labor programs; and is a frequent contributor to her practice group’s monthly Client Alert.

When not engaged in the above, Alexis devotes her time to qualified tuition programs (both prepaid and qualified savings programs) and ABLE plans. She represents state governments and state agencies in the implementation and maintenance of their Code Section 529 and 529A plans, providing tax and securities counsel and ensuring program materials and disclosure documents reflect best practices.
