Kutak Rock announces that Eric S. Johnson has been elected Managing Partner of the firm’s Kansas City, Missouri office effective October 16, 2017. He succeeds Jay Selanders, who served in the position since 2014 and was promoted to Chairman in September of this year. Johnson also serves as the firm’s Kansas City Litigation Department Chair, and with this appointment joins the firm’s Executive Committee.

Kutak Rock Chairman Jay Selanders remarks, “Eric has strong leadership qualities and has established a high level of rapport and trust with attorneys and staff in the Kansas City office and nationally. These traits, paired with proven business and client development skills, make him an ideal choice for managing partner in Kansas City. Kutak Rock offers a distinct and compelling value proposition, and this next generation of firm leadership is deeply invested in reinforcing and advancing our position among our peer AmLaw 200 firms.”

Johnson comments, “I am fortunate to practice with innovative, smart and congenial lawyers, and it is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to support the Kansas City office and further advance our reputation for delivering exceptional client experiences.”

Last month, the firm announced that Selanders, also from Kansas City, had been named Chairman. In the announcement, Selanders remarked, “The opportunity to lead our firm in an era of change is significant, and the responsibility to honor and uphold our values and maintain our culture is paramount. As we look forward, our mission is to partner with our clients and identify and deliver the legal services they require, while also advancing our business processes and service offerings to keep pace in an ever-evolving industry.”

Johnson, who joined the firm in 2005 after practicing with another local firm, has an established reputation as a trusted advisor and litigator and is frequently brought in to mitigate business problems and help clients avoid costly litigation. Johnson focuses his practice across several industries including real estate, automobile, utility, and financial services. He regularly handles disputes involving breach of contract, construction, breach of fiduciary duty, covenants not to compete, utility services and utility service agreements. He earned a J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
