Kutak Rock LLP, a leading U.S. business law firm, has an excellent opportunity for an experienced business writer to join our business development and marketing department as a Communications Writer and Content Manager. This is a new position with our national team and in this role, you will apply your mastery of the English language, composition and storytelling talents, and obsession with good grammar. You enjoy researching unfamiliar topics, identifying relevant key messages and crafting messages that move audiences to action. Projects will vary, however will include website content, pitch and proposal narratives, press releases, firm and attorney profiles, and bylined articles. You will also have an opportunity to develop and refine persuasive narratives that connect with our audiences for pitches, proposals and RFP submissions. This is a highly-autonomous yet deeply-collaborative role focused on mastery, organization and the relentless pursuit of effective language.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Write and distribute firm news announcements
- Write, edit and proofread website content
- Draft narrative content for pitches, proposals and RFP responses
- Edit and distribute legal alerts and other external firm and practice group communication
- Draft, distribute and follow-up on media pitches, press releases and article abstracts
- Support directory and ranking submissions
- Support firm leadership with executive communication
Position Requirements
- 3-5 years related work experience in communications with an emphasis in public relations or corporate communications, preferably in a law firm, professional services, or agency environment
- Ideal candidates will possess an undergraduate or advanced degree in communications, journalism or public relations
- Experience writing and editing for varied audiences, particularly for professional and executive audiences
- Experience drafting and pitching story ideas, client wins, thought leadership, op-eds and brand profiles to targeted media outlets
- Familiarity with AP writing style
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience with public relations tools and resources (Cision, PR Newswire, etc.)
- Ability to research unfamiliar topics and draft compelling narratives that align with the firm’s experience and service proposition
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to identify and leverage communication opportunities
The salary range for this position is $75-85k, commensurate with candidate experience.
