Our firm has an expansive affordable housing practice and has been an active leader in the LIHTC program since the program’s inception in 1986. We provide a wide range of services to dozens of national and regional clients, representing investors, syndicators, private equity funds, for-profit and nonprofit developers, construction and permanent lenders (both conventional and tax-exempt), and various state housing agencies charged with the establishment and operation of, and compliance with, the LIHTC program in their state.

We serve predominantly as counsel to tax credit investors in LIHTC transactions and have closed more than $9 billion of equity commitments to date. Currently, we provide LIHTC assistance to a number of investors, including syndicators, community development corporations, six state or regional equity funds and three of the nation’s largest national banking associations.

The breadth and depth of our firm’s experience in ancillary LIHTC areas—general tax, partnership/LLC law, securities laws, real estate law, tax-exempt bonds, HUD rules, financial guaranty work, 501(c)(3) matters and workout/loan restructuring—enables us to provide clients with a wide scope of services and the ability to respond to any number of issues that may need to be addressed in an LIHTC project. We routinely provide such advice on a more cost-effective basis than our competitors because of our extensive history in leading dozens of clients through these types of complex transactions.
