George R. Schlossberg, a partner in the firm's Washington, D.C. office, authored "How Congress Cleared the Bases: A Legislative History of BRAC." The Association of Defense Communities site describes Mr. Schlossberg's article as providing "a detailed account of how the federal government came up with the idea of relying on an independent commission to close military installations and how Congress settled on the BRAC process used most recently in 2005. The article is an excellent first step for communities and others trying to gain a sense of Congress’ most likely moves in the immediate future as DoD tries to start a new BRAC round."

On February 15, 2012 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted a Report and Order that established new requirements for Robocalls. As set forth by the FCC, “Robocalls” are autodialed or artificial/prerecorded telemarketing calls, and include text messages sent to wireless numbers. The purpose of these new rules is to harmonize the FCC’s telemarketing rules with the Robocall rules adopted by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in 2008.

The Supreme Court overturned a California law that required so-called “downer” or non-ambulatory animals to be immediately euthanized and held out of the food supply.  In its decision, the United States Supreme Court held that the Federal Meat Inspection Act’s express preemption provision prohibits states from imposing requirements on federally inspected slaughterhouses that are additional or different from the provisions of the Federal Meat Inspection Act, even if the requirements do not conflict.
