On May 1, 1990, Kutak Rock LLP established an office in Phoenix, Arizona. Since those early days, the attorney complement has multiplied many times, and due to its growth the office moved north to Scottsdale. The Scottsdale office now includes more than 40 attorneys whose practice emphasizes real estate finance, public finance, institutional lending and commercial litigation.
Some of the accomplishments of the Scottsdale attorneys, who have access to the firm's national resources, include:
- Serving as bond counsel for the nation’s first Government National Mortgage Association (GNMA) collateralized tax-exempt single-family housing program for Native Americans – a $25 million issue for the White Mountain Apache Housing Authority on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation.
- Representing a major financial institution and its predecessor-in-interest in connection with the origination and servicing of commercial mortgage and equipment loans and sale-leaseback transactions involving in excess of $5 billion and more than 5,000 properties.
- Representing a publicly traded financial services company in an action against a major national banking association for fraud and misrepresentation with respect to the purchase and sale of charged off credit card receivables. The case resulted in the recovery of $11.1 million, which was a driving factor in the almost-immediate tripling of the per share price of the client's corporate stock.
