Physician Fee Schedule includes updates to imaging arrangements

The 2008 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule to be published in the Federal Register on November 27, 2007, contains changes of significant note to health care providers. Of note are two key developments involving imaging arrangements:

            The “Anti-markup Rule” – Prohibition of on “marking up” diagnostic tests; and

            IDTF Performance Standards Changes — New sharing restrictions for Independent Diagnostic Testing Facilities (IDTF).

Health care providers should promptly review arrangements involving diagnostic services to determine whether they should be restructured to minimize the impact of the new rules, which take effect January 1, 2008.
