Mr. Sillyman practices primarily in the area of complex commercial litigation including defense of business torts, defamation, contract claims, securities fraud and interference claims as well as insurance coverage litigation. He has an extensive practice in administrative law and has represented numerous state licensing agencies in revocation and disciplinary proceedings, and public record requests, and several government entities including the State of Arizona and various counties and municipalities in matters involving the representation of elected and appointed officials, enforcement of development fees, public records requests, open meetings laws and government pension related litigation. Mr. Sillyman also represents employers, both private and governmental, in a variety of employment matters ranging from sexual and racial harassment claims to retaliation and wrongful termination and the enforcement of non-compete provisions. His practice also includes arbitrations for FINRA and the National Futures Association and he serves as an AAA neutral.

Examples of Mr. Sillyman's Practice Include:

  • Obtaining a $6 million judgment on a personal guaranty.
  • Defending a statewide elected official in a RICO and intentional interference lawsuit claiming damages in excess of $750 million.
  • Defending a sexual harassment and discrimination claim brought by five female employees of the State of Arizona.
  • Bringing suit against an Arizona Indian tribe for violations of a State Gaming Compact.
  • Representing the Arizona Medical Board in physician disciplinary matters.
  • Representing 80 former officers and directors of a bankrupt religious foundation in several lawsuits claiming damages in excess of $350 million.
  • Defending a breach of contract claim alleging damages in excess of $100 million.
  • Counseling clients on data breaches affecting over 50,000 individuals.
  • Obtaining decisions in over 20 Appellate cases in the Arizona Court of Appeals, the Arizona Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. 
  • Pursuing disciplinary actions against 50+ employees for misuse of company computer systems.

Mr. Sillyman has an active commercial litigation practice that includes defense of business torts, defamation, contract claims, non-compete provisions and securities fraud. He represents both corporations and governmental entities in complex litigation and has served as an arbitrator for FINRA (and its predecessor), the New York Stock Exchange and the National Futures Association, for over 25 years and as an AAA neutral.

Mr. Sillyman's commercial litigation experience includes:

  • Obtaining a $6 million judgment on a personal guaranty.
  • Defending a statewide elected official in a RICO and intentional interference lawsuit claiming damages in excess of $750 million. 
  • Bringing suit against an Arizona Indian tribe for violations of a state Gaming Compact.
  • Representing 80 former officers and directors of a bankrupt religious foundation in several lawsuits claiming damages in excess of $350 million.
  • Defending a county against developer claims for breach of contract.
  • Defending and brought numerous lawsuits seeking injunctive relief.
  • Defending a breach of contract claim alleging damages in excess of $100 million.
  • Advising a client in regard to a data breach affecting over 50,000 individuals.

Mr. Sillyman represents employers, both private and governmental, in a variety of employment matters ranging from sexual and racial harassment and discrimination claims to retaliation, wrongful termination and equal pay act claims. He practices before state and federal courts as well as before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Arizona Civil Rights Division.

Mr. Sillyman's employment-related experience includes:

  • Defending and settled a sexual harassment and discrimination claims brought by five female employees of the State of Arizona.
  • Investigating a discrimination claim brought against a city manager.
  • Defending the State of Arizona in § 1983 claims.
  • Defending a municipality in claims involving disciplinary actions against more than 50 employees.
  • Representing a county merit board in regard to employee disciplinary matters.
  • Serving as a hearing officer in labor-related issues.
  • Representing numerous corporations on claims of sexual harassment and discrimination.

Mr. Sillyman has represented the State of Arizona, the County of Maricopa, the municipalities of Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, Chandler and Maricopa and numerous of their agencies in such matters as:
