Mr. O’Brien is an associate in the firm's Los Angeles office. He practices in a variety of areas, with an emphasis on civil litigation, environmental law and toxic tort and product liability defense. He represents clients in a wide range of issues, and his practice extends to representing clients throughout the United States.

Mr. O’Brien serves as national counsel for a major American manufacturer, implementing national litigation strategy for multiple substance exposure dockets comprising numerous cases across approximately 25 different states.

In the area of toxic tort and product liability defense, Mr. O’Brien’s experience includes representing clients with diversified products ranging from chemicals (benzene, asbestos, solvents and industrial premises) to medical devices (operating room equipment and cardiac devices).

In the area of environmental law, Mr. O’Brien served as co-counsel in a breach of contract arbitration involving CERCLA and state agency regulation of contamination sites.

Mr. O’Brien graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Russian Language and Literature. He earned his Master of Arts from Georgetown University in Russian, Eurasian and Eastern European Studies, with a focus on post-communism legal systems. He studied law at the Pepperdine University School of Law, receiving his Juris Doctorate in 2015.

Case of Particular Interest:

Garity v. APWU National Labor Organization, 828 F.3d 848 (9th Cir. 2016): Successfully argued on behalf of a formerly pro se appellant that a prima facie claim for disability discrimination against a union does not require a showing that the union breached its duty of fair representation.
