Kutak Rock Named Bond Counsel for Billion-Dollar Kansas City Airport Projects

News | May 3, 2018

Kutak Rock has been selected to serve as bond counsel to the Kansas City International Airport for a transaction that is expected to have a dollar value of in excess of $1 billion. The bonds will fund the construction of a new terminal.

Along with Hardwick Law Firm, LLC and Martha E. Schach, Attorney at Law, LLC, both of Kansas City, Kutak Rock will provide co-bond counsel services in connection with the anticipated issuance of tax-exempt, long-term revenue bonds to finance the airport project. The project consists of a new, single, consolidated terminal complex that will replace the existing terminals, and will also include a multi-level parking garage and roadway and infrastructure improvements.

In the announcement of the selection decision, the New Terminal finance committee said that “based upon the proposed team, firm and personnel qualifications, track record and experience, and cost proposal, the Finance Committee selected Kutak Rock (together with Hardwick and Martha Schach) to act as bond counsel.”

Kutak Rock maintains one of the strongest airport finance practices in the country, according to Thomson Reuters. Kutak Rock and the Hardwick Law Firm previously served as co-bond counsel for Kansas City’s general airport refunding revenue bonds in 2013.
