James represents clients in a variety of real estate and business matters, including real estate sale contract and lease negotiations and documentation, community improvement district formation, tansportation development district formation, zoning and land use proceedings, planned developments, condominium creation, development agreement negotiations, business entity formation, drafting of corporate bylaws, resolutions, operating agreements and other corporate documents, and stock purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements, promissory notes, guarantees, and security agreements, among others.

James also practices in the intellectual property practice area. His experience includes prosecuting patent and trademark applications for software, industrial processing, electrical devices and materials processing; performing patent searches and drafting patentability opinions regarding software, industrial processing and electrical devices; drafting, reviewing and negotiating software licensing agreements, website development agreements, intellectual property license agreements, website terms of use and asset purchase agreements; and drafting legal memoranda regarding intellectual property law matters including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, state franchise law and contract law.

Prior to attending law school, James worked as a software development manager and senior database administrator. He was involved in designing and implementing many database and web-based software applications and performed research in fundamental physics as an undergraduate, publishing the results in the journal, Physical Review Letters. This research led to his selection as a finalist for the Apker Award, given by the American Physical Society for excellence in research by an undergraduate.
