Kutak Rock tax partner Matthias Edrich will be a speaker for two breakout sessions at the National Association of Bond Lawyers Tax and Security Law Institute Conference in Phoenix, AZ February 22-23, 2018.

The conference will cover topics dealing with current issues of securities law, tax law, and ethics. Government participants will be on many of the panels, giving the attendees up-to-date views of industry regulators.

Edrich will participate in two panels:

  • "Tax Enforcement" will review and evaluate current tax enforcement initiatives and questions relating to handling investigations and audits in light of the IRS’ announcement that it will no longer identify the basis for an examination.
  • "Private Activity Bond Tests" will explore advanced issues regarding measuring private business use and private payments, public-private partnerships, and multipurpose issue allocations.

The National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL) website states the organization was established in 1979 to promote the integrity of the municipal market through the education of its members in the laws affecting state and municipal bonds. NABL provides members some of the tools that help them improve the state of the art in the field, and also provides commentary and recommendations at the federal, state and local levels with respect to legislation, regulations and rulings affecting bonds.

Edrich is a member of Kutak Rock's national federal tax and public finance practice. He is an active member of NABL and has served two terms as chair of its Tax Law Committee. Edrich represents issuers and borrowers in Internal Revenue Service audits and private letter ruling and voluntary closing agreement program (VCAP) requests, and frequently serves as tax counsel in connection with all types of public finance transactions.
