Colorado BEST Program Improves Educational Facilities

Kutak Rock served as state and local bond counsel for the Colorado Department of Education’s BEST Grant Program designed to build and improve Colorado educational facilities. The Kutak Rock team served as bond counsel to the State of Colorado on all of its financings through the program. The firm also served as local bond counsel to over half of the participating schools in the financings.

 

The BEST Program was established in 2008 and provides an annual amount of funding in the form of competitive grants to school districts, charter schools, institute charter school, boards of cooperative educational services and the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind. BEST funds can be used for the construction of new schools as well as renovation of existing school facilities.  Kutak Rock’s involvement as bond counsel for the BEST Program led to the construction and renovation of 354 schools around Colorado, positively affecting over 138,800 students in 2014.
