Bryan Handlos and Kris Karnes Publish Article on Banking in the Era of Big Data

Publications - Article | April 14, 2016

Kutak Rock attorneys Bryan Handlos and Kris Karnes authored the article “Banking in the Big Data Era: Brave New World?” in the March/April 2016 issue of Nebraska Banker.

In the article Handlos and Karnes explain that though "big data" does not necessarily involve personally identifiable information, the things that can be done with big data are, depending on your point of reference, either amazing and exhilarating or worrisome, perhaps even ominous. Given this, bankers need to understand regulatory issues and must evaluate the good that banks can do, or the harm they may cause, when using "big data."

The article appears as the Counselor's Corner feature of the magazine and can be read in its entirety by clicking on the Related File below.

Handlos is a partner in the firm’s Omaha office and concentrates his practice on bank regulatory and consumer financial services matters. He represents banks, nonbank financial services providers, and commercial customers acquiring financial services products. His experience includes consumer compliance, retail banking, operations, treasury services and core bank regulatory topics.

Ms. Karnes counsels corporate entities and financial institutions for servicing and financial data processing contract negotiations, credit card portfolio purchases, general corporate governance and transactional work, federal and state consumer compliance, and bank regulatory and privacy matters. She also handles preparation and negotiation of agreements involving technology licensing and intellectual property.
