2016 Employment Law Seminar: November 10 in Omaha

On Thursday, November 10, 2016 members of Kutak Rock's National Employment Law Group will present a CLE seminar titled Solving the Employment Law Puzzle: Putting the Pieces Together. Dealing with the Problem Employee: When the Puzzle Piece Doesn’t Fit, by Shelly Baumert

A small percentage of employees create the lion’s share of HR problems and potential liability. In this session, Shelly Baumert will discuss common employee problems and mistakes supervisors and managers often make to worsen these situations. She will also discuss common-sense strategies for managers and supervisors to be part of the solution and help avoid liability.

Gigi O’Hara will discuss the ever-changing landscape of wage and hour law, which will include discussion about the U.S. Department of Labor’s new overtime rule, persuader rule, joint employment administrative interpretation, and the evolution of state sick leave initiatives.

Kasey Cappellano and Meaghan Gandy will discuss recent hot topics in employment law including: medical marijuana, the Defend Trade Secrets Act, violence in the workplace, LGBTQ discrimination updates, new retaliation guidance, reverse discrimination, pay disparity legislation and regulations, and caregiver discrimination.

Chutes and Ladders and Other Problematic Architectural Features under the ADA Title III, by Nick Batter

Nick Batter will discuss accessibility and public accommodation compliance under Title III of ADA, focusing on current and emerging litigation trends, how to reconcile conflicting guidelines, and best practices to minimize litigation.
